An important link in the chain in Stratford

As the doors reopen for the new school year, the Stratford Link team is busy preparing to welcome the Class of 2025 to campus. Link Crew is a bridging program run by a team of enthusiastic school leaders ready to welcome first year high school students.

“The goal is to have fun and put the students at ease in their new school environment, especially after the crazy year we had last year”, explains Emma Podvorec, Link Leader training day chair.

Link Crew begins with a fun orientation day where freshmen begin to develop relationships and strategies for success in high school. Students can meet and learn to move around campus in a relaxed manner. Emma points out that Link Crew has been essential in helping her make new friends.

“Especially with students in the upper grades and people from other middle schools,” she said. “It made me want to get more involved in Stratford and I feel like a more complete and successful student through the experience. ”

After orientation and throughout the year, the leaders of Link Crew continue to meet with their freshmen during the Spartan period.

“Some weeks, Link Crew will lead their class in different competitions, and other weeks, leaders will lead roundtables on topics such as homecoming, surrogacy and preparation for finals,” said Crystal Fain, teacher in Stratford and co-director of the group.

As a group, the Crew wants all students to know that the people at school care about them and their success. Crystal defines a successful Link Leader as “friendly, understanding and caring.”

“Most importantly, we hope to make Stratford a place where freshmen are welcomed, included and knowledgeable about all that makes Spartan life great.”
