Atiku Trails Wike To London, Meets Rivers Gov Amid Tinubu Dating Rumor
After months of hostility from Nyesom Wike, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has finally met with the Governor of Rivers State.
Atiku met Wike in London on Thursday amid rumors Governor de Rivers had traveled to the British capital to meet All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
A photo shared by former Presidential aide, Reno Omokri, showed Governors Samuel Ortom of Benue State; Seyi Makinde from Oyo State and Okezie Ikpeazu from Abia State attended Atiku’s meeting with the Governor of Rivers.
The relationship between Atiku and Wike had turned frosty following the refusal of the PDP presidential candidate to choose Governor de Rivers as the vice-presidential vice president.
Wike, who came second to Atiku in the presidential primary, was reportedly pushing for the vice-presidential post. But Atiku settled for Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa against Wike’s wishes.
Meanwhile, before his surprise meeting with Wike, Atiku had urged PDP leaders to avoid comments that could undermine party unity.
“It has become imperative to call on all party members, leaders and all persons connected, connected or associated with the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to refrain from making any comments that could diminish the image of the PDP as a united political party,” Atiku press aide Paul Ibe said in a statement Thursday.
“This appeal becomes necessary to draw the attention of party leaders and members to the diversionary antics of the ruling All Progressives Congress which, by fabricating a false impression of division within the PDP, aims to deceive the Nigerian public into he overlooks the monumental failures of the ruling party.
“Today, Nigerians look to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to lead the charge in toppling the ruling party. This popular expectation is why the APC is concerned about its impending downfall in the elections. This is also the very reason why the ruling party is manipulating the political process to create a sense of division within the DPP.
“Because they know there is nothing to campaign for with their performances in power, the APC chose to play the role of devil’s advocate, feasting to celebrate their imagined invincibility on a fraudulent claim according to which the PDP is divided.
“It is for this reason that appeals to all genuine members of the PDP and to all those who truly wish the success of the PDP presidential candidate do not fall into the trap of the APC by making statements that could give credence to the false assertion of divisions in the DPP.
“All party leaders especially including Rivers State Governor, His Excellency Nyesom Wike and all PDP Governors are united to work for victory of PDP in next year’s general elections in all areas.
“What is at stake in next year’s elections is the future of Nigeria and all PDP leaders and members are on the same page in the mission to save Nigeria from the grip of the APC,” he said.
