How to remove large link previews in Google Sheets

In Google Sheets, when you hover over a hyperlink, you see a large preview of that link. This preview hides the cells below, which might annoy you. Fortunately, you can hide this large preview in Sheets and we’ll show you how.

How hiding of link details works

While you can remove the large preview from the URL, a small preview from the link will continue to appear. As of this writing, there is no way to turn this off.

Additionally, Google Sheets itself doesn’t have the option to hide link previews. You have to rely on a Google Docs workaround to get the job done. In Google Docs, when you turn off a link option, this change also applies to Google Sheets. This is how you turn off link previews in your Google Sheets spreadsheets.

How to turn off hyperlink details in Google Sheets

To start the process, open a web browser on your Windows, Mac, Linux, or Chromebook computer and navigate to the Google Docs site. There, create a new document or open an existing one.

On the Docs editing screen, from the menu bar, select Tools> Preferences.

In the tab “General”, at the bottom, deactivate the option “Show link details”. Then click on “OK”.

Point: In the future, to re-enable link previews, enable the “Show link details” option.

And that’s all. You will no longer see large link previews in your Google Sheets spreadsheets.
