Police link murderous New Year’s Eve shooting suspects to other crimes; suspects detained without bail

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – The two suspects accused of a wave of deadly crimes on New Years Eve remain behind bars without bail.

Currently, Jordan Ruby, 18, and Jesani Carter, 20, each face charges of murder, robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery. Both appeared in Las Vegas court on Tuesday morning.

According to an arrest report obtained by 8 News Now, the pair entered the parking lot of the Fashion Show mall on Friday afternoon, approached a woman asking for her purse, and then shot her .

Clarice Yamaguchi, a 66-year-old tourist from Hawaii, has died.

Subway Lieutenant David Valenta met with 8 News Now to discuss how police linked a spate of crimes to Carter and Ruby, who are from California.

Police said Carter and Ruby left the fashion show in a silver BMW and drove to the parking lot of the Sahara Hotel where they fired shots, but it didn’t hit anyone.

Next stop, Palace Station, where they attempted to rob an employee, police said. When the attempted robbery failed, they targeted a man, shot him and killed him. This man has yet to be identified by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

In each incident, they were in the same car, which helped the police locate them.

Almost six hours after the first incident, they reported to Bally’s house, according to Valentina.

“We would watch a video and point our officers over to them, identify a few different people, go back and arrest a few people who match closely,” Valenta said.

In an exclusive video obtained by 8 News Now, you can see one of the men, Jordan Ruby, taken in handcuffs to Bally’s Food Court.

Police said the two separated in the casino, but at the time they did not have a gun with them.
