The gas link to Bulgaria will be completed within a few months

SOFIA (Bulgaria), December 21 (SeeNews) – Completion of the Greece-Bulgaria gas interconnection is only a matter of months, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said during a meeting in Sofia with his counterpart Bulgarian Kiril Petkov.

The Greece-Bulgaria interconnection (IGB) is a top priority for both governments, Petkov and Mitsotakis said at a joint press conference in Sofia on December 20, as seen in a video file posted on the EU’s website. BNT public television.

Construction of some 100 km over the total length of the 182 km gas link is fully completed, BNT noted.

“The priority to be placed on the Greek link, which we hope will become a reality very soon – it is of strategic importance for both Bulgaria and Greece,” Petkov said at the meeting.

Thanks to the interconnection, Bulgaria will be able to receive cheaper gas from Azerbaijan, thus diversifying its imports from Russia.

“We have agreed that the project will be implemented as quickly as possible,” Mitsotakis said.

The project was to be completed by the end of 2020.

The € 220 million ($ 247.9 million) gas link will connect the Greek gas transport system in the Komotini region with the Bulgarian gas transport system in the Stara Zagora region.
